Projects

The Friends of Hyde Park Cemetery undertake a range projects in the cemetery, including regular grave marking and restoration projects and environmental improvement projects.

Cemetery Improvement Projects

In 2025, we benefitted from a grant through the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management (ICCM) recycling of metals scheme, thank you to our colleagues in City of Doncaster Council’s Bereavement Services team.

As part of this scheme, bereaved families give their consent for metals found within cremated remains to be recycled, with the money made being distributed in grants. We have spent our grant on new equipment and improvements in the cemetery, including new signage at the Carr Lane entrance.

In 2025, we were supported financially and with volunteers by Gripple Limited to undertake an overhaul project on section O. The project removed old and damaged underlay from the area at the entrance of the cemetery and replaced it with new lining and wood chips. As a small group, the additional volunteer capacity allowed us to undertake a large-scale project in only a few sessions.

Thank you to Gripple Ltd for their support.

In 2022 we secured funding from Get Doncaster Moving to create a new guided walk leaflet for the cemetery. The walk ‘Larger Than Life’ explores larger memorials in the cemetery including obelisks and tall monuments. Download a copy on our education page.

In 2018 we worked with The Conservation Volunteers – TCV to transform the sorely neglected south western extremity of Hyde Park Cemetery into a wildlife friendly corner. Litter and rubbish was cleared, low value vegetation was removed and much of the 120 sq. metre slope was dug over. New wildlife-friendly shrubs were planted. The photos show progress from the start to the finish of this first day. We are indebted to Greggs for their Environmental Grant to fund this work.
